The original Star Wars trilogy has been a part of our culture for decades. The first three films redefined the mythological struggle between good and evil in terms of light and dark, while the characters, who populated the galaxy far, far, away, changed the way we viewed rebels, princesses, and scoundrels. In large part, their iconic impressions were shaped by the scripts, the sets, and of course, the costumes. From the sleek, hard plastic suits of the stormtroopers and the faceless layered styling of the bounty hunters, to the simple rustic fabrics of the Jedi, the functional and deliberately understated attire lent an authenticity to the fictional world, which drew audiences in and grabbed them forever.

More than thirty year later, in conjunction with LucasBooks and the Lucasfilm Archives, the costumes of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi have once again been fully assembled and donned. "Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy" thus pairs all-new photography with original sketches and artwork by Ralph McQuarrie, John Mollo, and Nilo Rodis-Jamero, with behind-the-scenes images, new research, and new interviews with the costume designers, stitchers, and dressers.

This intimate look features each iconic costume - from Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia to stormtroopers, Boba Fett, rebel pilots, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Imperial officers - in rare, never-before-seen detail, showcasing the materials, fabrics, and expert craftsmanship that both new and long-time Star Wars fans will appreciate and applaud.
