Marajo Island was known as one of the region's most populous and sophisticated ancient societies. This volume accompanied the 2011 Denver Art Museum "Overthrown: Clay Without Limits" exhibition and presents ceramics from the museum, Barbier-Mueller Museum, University of Pennsylvania Museum, American Museum of Natural History, and private collections. Included are burial urns, incised figures, intricately carved and painted jars, bowls, plates, and unique circular ceramic stools.
