Oryx were introduced into New Mexico's White Sands Missile Range (Trinity site) in 1969 as exotic big game where they have thrived. The image of spiraled black horns against white gypsum sands inspired this pattern. 1 1/2” at its widest and 8” tall, adjustable 18” leather cord, silver slider and silver ends.
Karole, Grady and their son, Henry, make up a leather studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Their work is a 'mescolanza'. A blending of Karole's Lithuanian heritage, Venezuelan upbringing, and Northern Californian education with Grady's New Mexico roots. Oropopo's collections draw deeply from scientific, historical, and environmental themes, blending function with desert literature. Every piece is a dialogue among the designer, the wearer and the collective history of the Southwest.
