Inspired by the beauty of waterfalls, this blown glass vase features a flattened profile with a carved element that reveals the underlaid color. The interior of the vase is transparent, creating a sophisticated contrast and thoughtful composition.
The exterior sand color pattern is inspired by the subtle tones of the American Southwest, the rich hues of tree bark and dead leaves, as well as rocks and stones; the interior is a rich yet translucent watery blue hue. As with all glass, the vibrancy of the translucent colors will vary with the light.
Each vase is handmade by artist Thomas Spake in his Tennessee glassblowing studio. After the vessel has been blown and cooled to room temperature, the vase is engraved using a diamond wheel, carving through the exterior to reveal the interior color and sandblasted to create the matte finish.
