Fringe Earrings

Starting as a functional addition to buckskin, fringe became a western embellishment that was later adopted by flapper girls to accentuate the wild spontaneity of their dancing. Karole, Grady and their son, Henry, make up a leather studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 
Their work is a 'mescolanza'. A blending of Karole's Lithuanian heritage, Venezuelan upbringing, and Northern Californian education with Grady's New Mexico roots. Oropopo's collections draw deeply from scientific, historical, and environmental themes, blending function with desert literature. Every piece is a dialogue among the designer, the wearer and the collective history of the Southwest.
