Inspired by the Fata Morgana or "floating mountain" mirages the base circle of this design is a single point of view looking up to a curved bar floating above the horizon on radiating shimmer lines. Pendant is made out of leather and wood. Wood is 1 3/4” tall, 1" wide and 1/2” deep. The piece measures 3” long, 3 1/4” wide, 24” adjustable leather cord, copper ends.
Karole, Grady and their son, Henry, make up a leather studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Their work is a 'mescolanza'. A blending of Karole's Lithuanian heritage, Venezuelan upbringing, and Northern Californian education with Grady's New Mexico roots. Oropopo's collections draw deeply from scientific, historical, and environmental themes, blending function with desert literature. Every piece is a dialogue among the designer, the wearer and the collective history of the Southwest.
